There is always going to be a birthday party or a morning tea or a friend coming over for a cuppa or some reason to treat ourselves. We’re always going to be too busy, too tired or sick to exercise. At some point we are going to have to change our perspective.
Instead of feeling like we’re missing out on things, why not focus on all the incredible health benefits we’re working towards. When I say no to cake or treats, I don’t feel like I’m missing out. I feel like I’m making progress. When I go to bed early for my early morning running sessions, I don’t feel like I’m missing out. I feel like I’m getting ahead. I LOVE the feeing of getting to the end of the week and feeling like I ate well and exercised like a boss. It’s empowering – it proves to me I am not a slave to my emotions or feelings. It shows me I can be disciplined and control myself. That is a GREAT feeling. I get excited about the thought of becoming someone great and making a difference in other people’s lives. That gets me going at 4 in the morning!!
To be honest, I think this is why people try and push unhealthy eating habits or boozing or lazy behaviours on each other. If everyone around them is overweight, living an unhealthy life and not exercising then they don’t feel bad about what they’re doing. But when someone steps up and wants something more for themselves, it makes everyone around them uncomfortable. It shines a light on all their bad behaviours and so they try to pull them down or discourage them. BUT instead of pulling each other down, it’s time to push each other up. It’s time to focus on all the things we stand to gain in life by taking care of ourselves, rather than focusing on the little things we say no to.
To become something more than you are now, you have to do more than you are now. If you are doing the same as everyone else, then you’ll be the same as everyone else.
